About the 2025 civics test

Who takes the 2025 version of the civics test?

Applicants who filed Form N-400 on or after October 20, 2025 take the 2025 civics test. There are 128 possible questions; at your interview a USCIS officer asks 20, and you must answer 12 correctly to pass.

How is the 2025 test different from the 2008 test?

The 2025 test expands the question bank from 100 to 128 questions, asks 20 questions at the interview instead of 10, and requires 12 correct answers instead of 6. Which version you take depends on your N-400 filing date — before October 20, 2025 is the 2008 test; on or after is the 2025 test.

Are these the real USCIS questions?

Yes. All 128 questions and their answers come directly from the official USCIS 2025 civics test list (M-1778) — a U.S. government document in the public domain. We do not rewrite or invent questions.

Is the real test oral, and does this cost anything?

The interview is oral: an officer asks and you answer out loud. This practice uses flashcards to match that recall-and-check format, it is completely free, and no account is required.

Why do some answers say "answers will vary" or point to uscis.gov?

Questions about current officials — like your U.S. Senators, U.S. Representative, or the President — change over time, so USCIS directs applicants to official up-to-date resources. We show the official wording and let you self-check.
